The tanker is turning, and the tone is taking shape! While I've been busily tweaking sound effects, perfecting the audio mix, and finalizing reshoots, our PR machine has been humming in the background. Deliveries are being made, and our big social and audience awareness push campaign is just around the corner!
As a special thank you to our loyal #TANKarmy members who join us every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, I'm excited to share a little behind-the-scenes teaser. The Color of Perfection: A Deep Dive into Color Correcting TRYHARD COMPANY: The CHRONICLES of TANK
As an indie filmmaker, I'm no stranger to wearing multiple hats. But when it comes to color correcting, I'm about to embark on a journey that requires patience, dedication, and a willingness to learn.
A typical feature-length movie contains around 1,045 to 1,100 shots. My project, TRYHARD COMPANY: The CHRONICLES of TANK, is a six-episode series with an average of over 2,000 shots per episode – that's counting the split-screen scenes, which make up a significant portion of the episodes.
To achieve the desired look, I chose to shoot in 4K raw format, which gives me the freedom to play with color grading. However, this freedom comes at a cost: time. Every single clip must be color corrected, a process that requires a deep understanding of color theory, lighting, and the nuances of different formats and monitors.
Color correcting is an art form that requires years of experience and a keen eye for detail. It's a process that involves enhancing the mood, atmosphere, and emotional impact of each scene. As I prepare to dive into this critical phase of post-production, I'm excited to share some insights from one of the best colorists I've come across.
Below, you'll find some valuable resources that showcase the art of color correcting via one of the BEST colorist I’ve come across. Extremely knowledgeable and accessible with his sharing of the process. Whether you're a filmmaker, a color enthusiast, or simply curious about the process, these videos offer a wealth of knowledge and inspiration.
